Working with interior designer, Becci Oldman, owner of Hiltingbury Interiors in Chandlers Ford, we were commissioned to design and make a Signature Bespoke Shaker kitchen, This is part of an open plan space that leads to a newly created living area within an extension facing out to the garden in a 1950s house.
Using a neutral colour palette, the cabinetry and wall colours extend through to the living space to create an entire room set, while the hub of this timeless classic Shaker kitchen is the stunning 3 metre x 1.2 metre central kitchen island. This features a recessed corner to one side where the 30mm thick Organic White Caesarstone quartz worktop overhangs to provide counter stool seating beneath it and LED lighting is incorporated above the plinth on all sides.
On the facing side are two storage cupboards, while the task side of the island features nine symmetrical deep drawers set in chamfer frames with solid oak dovetail drawer boxes on soft-close runners. Antique brass cup handles from the Armac Martin Wythenshawe range to complement the antique brass butt hinges used throughout the scheme. Within the worktop is a flush fitted 80cm induction hob by Miele. Above it is a 90cm Stratos compact ceiling extractor in stainless steel by Westin.
Against the exterior wall is a long run of base cabinets with 30mm thick in-frame door fronts, also featuring chamfer frames. At the centre of the run is a French farmhouse double ceramic sink by Villeroy & Boch with a double mixer tap by Franke Instant 4-in-1 Boiling & Filtered Water Kitchen Mixer Tap, supplied by the client. The same quartz material is used along this run, together with a 100mm high upstands. To the left of the sink is a an undercounter cabinet with two large pull-out bins and to the right is a 60cm integrated dishwasher (client’s own), in addition to further storage cupboards and a built-under frost free freezer by Liebherr, there is a Le Mans pull-out unit in the corner cupboard. Above the sink are two oak shelves on metal brackets that are designed for decorative pieces and to complement Becci Oldman’s interior aesthetic for the rest of the room.
The run of tall cabinetry against the back wall of the kitchen incorporates a housing for a 60cm pyrolytic oven beneath a 45cm combination steam oven, both by Miele, set at eye level between storage cabinets. To the right of the oven bank is a full size integrated tall larder fridge by Liebherr and to the left is a bespoke tall dry larder with floor-to-ceiling spice racks. Above the corner space is a breakfast station with oak shelving and additional sockets to accommodate a coffee machine and a toaster.
