Searle & Taylor wins Salisbury Civic Society Conservation Award 2024

At an event held at the Salisbury Arts Centre in Wiltshire on Tuesday 28th January 2025, our managing director, Darren Taylor was presented with a Salisbury Civic Society Conservation Award 2024. Alongside multi award-winning architect, John Comparelli, Searle & Taylor was one of a group of contractors that were recognised for their work on an extension at Cross Cottage in Barford St. Martin, Wiltshire.

The Salisbury Civic Society, founded in 1960, works to promote high standards of contemporary design in all aspects of the built environment within Salisbury and South Wiltshire, while safeguarding the historic buildings and landscape setting underpinning the area’s special character. The Society’s buildings award scheme was launched in 1993.

The judges’ report states that they were particularly impressed by the interior at Cross Cottage, which had a ‘well-lit unified kitchen and living space downstairs.’ It continues: ‘The combination of a clearly very valuable addition to the house’s interior, with a well-judged exterior, which was entirely appropriate to the building’s listed status, made the decision to give an award an easy one.’

We designed and installed a contemporary handleless open plan kitchen within the extension to the Grade II listed house using cabinetry by Austrian brand, EWE. Throughout the design and installation process, our experienced team were respectful of the character of the property as the extension leads directly from the listed part of the building.

Since 1991 we have been designing and installing contemporary and classic kitchens in heritage and listed buildings across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and beyond. At Searle & Taylor, we have the specialist knowledge required to ensure that all aspects of a kitchen meet with all required regulations from design to completion.
