WE SPECIALISE IN CURVED AND CIRCULAR FURNITURE

A handmade curved walnut cupboard with integrated chopping boards

At Searle & Taylor, one of our specialisms is handmade curved and circular furniture and we are one of very few kitchen companies in Hampshire that offer this bespoke service. When you visit our showroom, you will see a perfectly circular kitchen island on display at the entrance and we also have other curved pieces inside.

Curves in the kitchen will add warmth and flow to the design and they work really well in either contemporary and traditional in-frame styles. We can also add bespoke curved additions to linear handleless kitchen furniture made by our Austrian partner brand, Intuo.Circular kitchen islands look stunning in large square-shaped rooms where there is more than a metre of space around the entire island, or we can design rectangular islands with curved cupboards or breakfast tables attached.

We also like to include curved furniture to make it easier to access corner storage; making the best use of space. We regularly include concave double door corner cupboards in our Signature Bespoke kitchen schemes, particularly on either side of a long run of cabinetry. Curves also promote flow along a busy walkway area in the kitchen and because there are no sharp corners to contend with, they are a safer and a more ergonomic option too. While there are alternatives, many standard kitchen corner units feature straight 60cm doors at 90° angles that open to the same interior area, which is usually a dark and difficult space to manage. Corner units with curved double doors will open out to make the internal space much more accessible. To accommodate the curved doors with chamfer edges, the back of the unit is usually 1050mm by 1050mm. This is not a standard size, so this type of furniture usually has to be made bespoke.

Curved corner cupboards can come in different heights to comprise a tall larder or be part of a run of base units and wall mounted to match, the latter being shallower in depth. We always ensure that an overhead curved cupboard will be made to a depth that can accommodate up to 12-inch diameter plates, making it functional as well as attractive. In addition, we recommend that curved cupboards feature circular knobs, while linear cabinets can feature curved handles to add to the symmetry.

We love designing kitchens with curved elements. Here are some images from recent projects and if you want to find out more, please call us on 01962 850 851.
